One of my goals for this year was to start a “Fan Work Favorites” post, to rec the amazing content I’ve seen! I’ve been thinking about doing this for months, and now that my real life events have quieted down, I’m excited to finally be able to commit to it!
I’ve seen so many fan works that I absolutely love that don’t get enough love, imo, so I’m excited to shine the spotlight on those works especially.
What to Expect
Posts will:
- Appear every other Sunday, starting today, January 6
- Feature at minimum 3 works
- This includes fic and art, mainly, possibly meta, and any other medium that I may come across
- Ideally, I’ll be able to post more than 3, but it depends on how much I’m able to read in a given fortnight
- Focus mainly on rebelcaptain works (I can’t help it, it’s what interests me), but may also include:
- Bodhi/Luke
- Anything about the Skywalker Family because I just can’t get enough of that tragedy, apparently (and Luke is my always #1 bc … he’s Luke!)

ART
Many elements to love in this! The tense expression on Jyn’s face conveyed particularly with her eyebrows and closed eyes. The clench of her fist around her kyber crystal. The way Jyn’s hair falls around her face like blinders, like she’s hiding. (I also just really love how her her drapes in general, the shape of it.) The blue tones. All of these establish a mood hurt, sadness, it’s very emotional and I love that. I also love Cassian’s hand on her shoulder; it’s interesting that his presence is so well felt in this, but we don’t see his eyes — he’s there and he’s supportive, but we’re focused on Jyn and her hurt. Isn’t that sort of a particular about how we feel when we’re hurt? We don’t see everything? I’m always afraid to meet people’s eyes when I’m sad. Maybe I’m projecting too much! Anyways, I really do love this piece, the emotion in it. Also enjoyed the sketchy lines.
Gosh, this piece was very striking for multiple reasons. I love the blur of the surroundings so that we’re only focused on K-2SO, Cassian, and Jyn. I love the expressions on Jyn and Cassian’s faces—how they’re both looking around to the side to keep tabs on their surroundings (and effectively mirroring each other). Something about the tilts of their heads even seems so very much them? Jyn’s chin angled up like she’s already ready for a fight, Cassian head down, trying to remain unobtrusive. I also really love the style here. And Jyn’s hair in her face! Do I think this on every drawing of Jyn? Maybe? Idk, but I like how it’s rendered here, too. Also K-2 looking at the viewer! Unnerving, in a way that fits K-2 as much as Jyn & Cassian’s expressions and poses fit them. Love this.

YOOOOOOOO. OMG. It’s so rare that you find animations, so seeing them at all is novel enough. But this. This. I’ve had the pleasure of coming across it multiple times and I stop and stare at it every time because I will not tire of watching it on loop. I’m gonna get it out of the way because again I love how Jyn’s hair is rendered. Also Cassian’s beard! Okay but more importantly: the look Jyn gives Cassian right at the beginning, tbh I only just noticed that now; the sweet little cheek kiss that starts us off; the way Jyn’s expression shifts from contentment to oh no oh shit; Cassian’s sneaky little grin; Jyn’s AHHH; Jyn’s consternation that shifts into an ‘well, okay’; and the NUZZLE it’s so sweet omg. Ohhh such a sweet kiss! I particularly love Jyn’s hand on Cassian’s cheek. Look man I feel like if you know anything about art you should know how difficult hands are. So there’s that, first of all. But secondly just the emotion of that hand placement, and the way she’s just smooched up in there! Very sweet! Also shout out for the execution and attention to detail on the outfits, specifically Jyn’s. I’m always impressed by how people get clothes to look right, with all the wrinkles and stuff. So anyways, this is a very cute piece, huzzah for rebelcaptain kissing!
Let me tell you a story about how I was scrolling along my dash, when all of a sudden what appeared to be a comic with Cassian on Hoth just slid up into my screen. What!! Yeah, this fooled me for a second, I thought it was Legit and Real and was seriously about to run to google to search. Very impressive! How do people art??? I don’t even know. Cassian’s face in “What happened to her?” and also Leia!!! And not to mention, of course, the oh shit feels. Cassian’s off to find Jyn again (it’s what he does). This is the first in part of series so be on the look out for the rest to come!

Technically I speed read them all over the last few months as I prepared to write my “episode,” and I’m now going back and rereading and commenting properly. I remember way back when the original post circulated about this idea, from the much-missed jaded. Such a cool idea, having so many people join in and participate, not to mention how fun it is reading about other cultures and places! Two of my favorite things in one, travel stories and rebelcaptain. There’s something unique and fun about all of them. Also, SO. MUCH. PINING. (just kiss already!) Be ready though, reading this WILL make you hungry! (and it will make your sweet tooth ache—for the food AND the romance. Ughh that was horrible I’m so sorry.)

A wonderful first fic that nails Cassian’s characterization right out of the gates. An insightful take on his first interactions with Jyn, and how they mirror each other. Oh, my heart! Definitely looking forward to more from this writer! (One-shot)
If y’all know me well you should know I live for theputterer’s work, and this is no exception. Her exploration of Cassian’s character throughout her entire Cassian Andor nonsense is so incredibly poignant, thorough, sad, and hopeful. There’s a lot of words and they are all worth it. This one in particular is a kidfic featuring three tenth birthdays: Cassian’s, and his two kids’. Perfect recipe of fluff and angst. Her writing is always so dense and rich, it's very overwhelming in a good way and so enjoyable to read. I think this is a very powerful exploration of Cassian's depression that balances the sadness with hope and... if that doesn't capture the essence of Rogue One and Star Wars then I don't know what could. (One-shot, short story from Cassian Andor nonsense series. OC children characters. TW for depression and mental health issues.)
Jyn and Cassian have to hike all night through the woods, and tired, grumpy conversation leads to revelations and talk of the future. Gosh, I loved this. The pacing of the conversation, the back and forth exchange, and of course, talk about having hope for a future after. Yes! Love it. (One-shot)
The only non-rebelcaptain fic on this list. Luke meets Ahsoka the morning after the celebration on Endor, and it is every bit of what you would hope from a conversation between them. This is satisfying to me on multiple levels because (a) it’s about Luke meeting Ahsoka, but also (b) the idea of Ahsoka being there for this moment?? My heart. My poor, poor heart. It had no chance. This was wonderful and I love it. (One-shot, Gen)
